Dana's Story
Dana grew up in foster care, had her first child in her teens, and an incarcerated spouse by the time she was 20. The home she maintained on her own was broken into — she left, afraid for her safety and that of her kids. Dana jumped from relative to relative, looking for stability and well-being for her family. She ended up in a shelter with no personal belongings or a place to call home.
Dana’s challenge: How could she locate housing she knew she could afford for herself and her children and replace the necessities left behind – pots and pans for cooking; utensils and dishware for meals; furniture, linens and clothing?
A friend referred Dana to the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, where she found a willing ear, guidance, and solutions. She applied to the YW’s Bridge Housing program for help during this time of struggle advancing to a future of hope. With the support of caring YW staff, Dana is settled in a safe apartment with her children, is working part-time, and is furthering her education with the goal to one day work in fashion design.
Dana is one of many who finds hope and help making ends meet through the YWCA Greater Pittsburgh. Can we count on you to make a difference in someone’s life with your gift of support today?
