Service Learning
The Teen leadership Institute believes that learning can happen anywhere, not just in a classroom. That is why we engage young women not only through academic programming, but also service learning. By integrating meaningful community service with instruction and reflection, we enrich the learning experience and engender civic responsibility. Teens are encouraged to explore their community and discover issues to address that will promote their neighborhood’s assets and encourage positive community change.
TechGYRLS participant use STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) to address issues that affect their communities. TechGYRLS® conduct community presentations to their peers and young children about issues such as climate change, recycling and pollution.
YW Teens program participants are asked to develop their leadership skills by organizing community canvassing, volunteerism, and creating a team project that will make a positive impact in their community. They are called upon to truly experience their neighborhoods and see how they can be a part of shaping their space, encouraging civic action, and leaving their unique signatures on the places they call home.
