The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Teen Leadership Institute empowers young women and girls by providing the following programs:
Service Learning
The Teen leadership Institute believes that learning can happen anywhere, not just in a classroom. That is why we engage young women not only through academic programming, but also service learning. By integrating meaningful community service with instruction and reflection, we enrich the learning experience and engender civic responsibility. Participants are called upon to truly experience their neighborhoods and see how they can be a part of shaping their space, encouraging civic action, and leaving their unique signatures on the places they call home.
Teen Leadership Institute Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs offer an innovative way to expose middle and high school girls to STEM learning. STEM activities, field trips, and mentoring are an integral part of the program and help to broaden girl’s knowledge, comfort level and interest in STEM. Through hands-on, team projects, girls socialize and learn in a relaxed and engaging girls-only space.
