JOB SUMMARY:
An Assistant Group Supervisor works as part of a team made up of the Children and Youth Development and Education Director, Group Supervisors, Aides, Cook and clerical staff.  She/he assists in the implementation of daily activities under the guidance of the group supervisor towards the goal of quality program (in particular NAEYC and/or NAA requirements for accreditation) for all groups in the Children and Youth Development and Education Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Child Development Associate (CDA) and a minimum of High School Diploma or a general educational development (GED) certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.
  • A CDA and a minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training as described in 3270.31(c) of the Title Code related to training.  GED educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from human services field and one (1) year experience with children.
  • A CDA and a minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and one (1) year experience with children.
  • A CDA and a minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in 3270.01(c) of the Title 55 Code related to training.
  • A CDA and a minimum of a High School Diploma or a GED and two (2) years of experience with children.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

 

  • Coordinates daily activities and supervises aides in the absence of the Group Supervisor.
  • Talks with parents when there’s a problem only after speaking to the Director of Children and Youth Development and Education, Supervisor or Group Supervisor.
  • Works with the Children and Youth Development and Education Director, Supervisor, and Group Supervisor on goal areas after the completion of the ERS and other evaluations of Programs.
  • Implements the creative curriculum, OUNCE / Work Sampling assessments.
  • Plans and executes appropriate activities for the children each day and completes weekly activity plans and prepares safe, child-centered environments.
  • Insures that each age group is participating in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Observes and evaluates each child’s progress and provides written report to the director.
  • Maintains compliance with standard DPW health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains accurate records, assessments and children’s work samples.
  • Supervises aides and volunteers in the assigned group area; works cooperatively with all other staff.
  • Attends staff and parent meetings (when required).
  • Completes all required reports in a timely fashion.
  • Administers medications in accordance with DPW regulations and Association policy.
  • Ensures children’s safety observing and executing preventative measures.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of computer assignments and curriculum for children and community participants.
  • Responsible for maintenance of computer equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for instructing children and community participants in the computer applications and software.
  • Represents the goals of the YWCA and the philosophy of the Children and Youth Development and Education facility to parents and community.
  • Maintains health and safety standards, policies, and regulations (i.e. cleanliness, using proper sanitization and personal care routines, removes all trash from playground and other common areas before exiting the area).
  • Will work in conjunction with co-workers and management to achieve Affirmative Action goals.
  • Maintains high levels of consumer satisfaction.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee and contract information.
  • Displays consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Promotes and supports the mission, imperative, values and goals of the YWCA maintaining high performance standards.
  • Participates in YWCA professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge, and procedures.
  • Performs other such duties assigned within the scope of the Children and Youth Development and Education Department.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, carry and otherwise move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull or walk for various lengths of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to utilize computer equipment to complete daily work responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate fax/copy machines, telephone, calculator and general office equipment on a daily basis.
  • Daily work in an office environment with occasional exposure to weather conditions while attending off site meetings.
  • Available to work 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week or more as necessary to meet Association objectives.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, agency trainings and other miscellaneous work assignments within or outside of Allegheny County.
