Educator-High School (LaunchPad afterschool program)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Educator is responsible for creating a learning environment that guides and encourages high school students to develop and fulfill their academic and social potential. The Educator implements leadership, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) workforce development and financial literacy curriculum and/or monitors and assesses the effectiveness of program delivery.  The Educator is responsible for tracking student success and reporting to the YWCA, which in turn evaluates and may improve upon the curriculum.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates, Business, or Technical Degree with two (2) years of relevant social service experience or High School Diploma or equivalent with five  (5) years relevant experience.  Must be able to pass and maintain a clean Act 33/34 clearances and FBI background check.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Ability to work with diverse populations of youth from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience monitoring and implementing Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Financial Literacy, Workforce Development and Leadership projects/programs.
  • Ability to manage and understand projects/programs by proactively addressing changes in conditions, operations, and the environment that will affect program outcomes.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, evaluates options, and implements solutions that will improve performance.
  • Communicate effectively, verbal and written, as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Motivate, develop, and direct people to acquire trust and inspire confidence.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic and social potential by implementing leadership, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), workforce development and financial literacy curriculum and/or monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of program delivery.
  • Maintain effective communication by serving as a liaison between YWCA and school personnel, families, program partners, and volunteers.
  • Manage logistical aspects of programs/projects to include but not limited to: attendance, applications, meals, data entry, student departure/arrival, supply acquisition/return, assessment distribution.
  • Implement recruitment and retention strategies for student participation.
  • Safeguard the welfare of all students by following the proper policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with department staff to assess and guide the student and/or partner performance.
  • Create an effective teaching environment for participants by acting as a role model illustrating appropriate behavior and ethics.
  • Furnish program reports as deemed necessary.
  • Work closely with the department staff and partners on program development and enhancements.
  • Participate in professional development, meetings, and program outings.
  • Maintains high levels of consumer satisfaction.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee and contract information.
  • Works in conjunction with the YWCA and its partners/affiliates to achieve Affirmative Action goals.
  • Displays consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Promotes and supports the mission, imperative, values and goals of the YWCA maintaining high-performance standards, including abiding by its policies and procedures.
  • Participates in YWCA professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the Youth Services & STEM Education Department.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, nights and weekends.
  • Available to work up to 30 hours per month or more as necessary to meet Association objectives.
  • Ability to lift, carry and otherwise move up to 15 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, or walk for various lengths of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to utilize computer equipment to complete weekly work responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate fax/copy machines, telephone, calculator and general office equipment.
  • Work in an office and school environment with frequent travel to sites regardless of weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, agency training and other miscellaneous work assignments within or outside of Allegheny County.
  • Ability to communicate information to students effectively and systematically monitor and report on students' development.
