A Tribute To Women Leadership Awards Luncheon
The A Tribute to Women Leadership Awards recognize and honor women from the Greater Pittsburgh area who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the workplace and in the community, and for their contributions to the goals of the YWCA – the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism. Since 1983, over 200 women have received the honor. Click here to see a list of past awardees.

In its 18th year, this annual event honored outstanding leaders and organizaitons for their efforts in eliminatng racial disparities in our community. Six awardees were honored at the Westin Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh.

This fundraiser to benefit the YWCA was held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at THE BAR on Carson Street, Southside.
The $20 donation included two drink tickets, appetizers, cookies, coffee and soft drinks.
Beautiful beaded jewelry by dearest was displayed also.
10th Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon and Fashion Show

The 10th annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon and Fashion Show took place on Saturday, October 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westin Hotel, 1000 Penn Avenue. This inspirational luncheon honored breast cancer survivors and also featured survivors modeling fashions from local retailers. The event also provided attendees with a variety of educational health and wellness information.
140th Anniversary Symposium

The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh celebrated 140 years of service in Pittsburgh. The YWCA has bridged three centuries continuing to strengthen the community by creating and advancing opportunities for all women to seek equality and self sufficiency. They have shaped our community and improved the lives of others – they are innovators, visionaries and advocates.

The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh recognized the finalists of the 2009 Dr. Helen S. Faison Racial Justice Student Essay Contest at a special award ceremony on Wednesday, April 15.

The annual essay contest supports the One Imperative of the YWCA – Eliminating Racism – by raising awareness about diversity among young people and acknowledging their search for ways to create racial harmony and equality.
This year, students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades were asked to respond to the following question: Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009. What can young people do to eliminate racism and other forms of prejudice during President Obama’s time in office?
A panel of judges selected three finalists in each of the three grades, and the YWCA presented them with U.S. Savings Bonds: First Place, $1,500; Second Place, $1,000; and Third Place, $750.
