JOB TITLE: Custodian

Hiring Range: $10.95-$12.75 / hour

JOB SUMMARY:

The custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors, ensuring all areas are safe.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent with two (2) years relevant experience. Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required. Satisfactory Act 33/34 clearances, fingerprinting and criminal background checks are also required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Incumbent should have a basic knowledge of safety and emergency procedures, general cleaning skills and minor general maintenance skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works closely with Director to ensure upkeep of all site locations.
• Scheduling of all custodial projects, provide adequate personnel scheduling and order all necessary custodial supplies. 
• Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms.
• Cleans, mops, washes, buffs and vacuums floors.
• Empties trash and removes recycling materials.
• Cleans and polishes fixtures.
• Cleans windows. Dusts and vacuums furniture.
• Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls
• Cleans ceilings and dusts and polishes light fixtures.
• Washes and replaces blinds.
• Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas.
• May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• Must be able to setup and clean up for conference room use.
• Operates company vehicle to include occasional deliveries and pick-ups.
• Conducts regular quality assurance checks for safety and potential hazards.
• Assists in the security of the building.
• Maintains high levels of consumer satisfaction.
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee and contract information.
• Will work in conjunction with co-workers and management to achieve Affirmative Action goals.
• Displays consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.
• Promotes and supports the mission, imperative, values and goals of the YWCA maintaining high performance standards.
• Participates in YWCA professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge and procedures.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director within the scope of Building Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift, carry and otherwise move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
• Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, or walk for various lengths of time throughout the day
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
• Ability to utilize computer equipment to complete daily work responsibilities
• Ability to operate fax/copy machines, telephone, calculator and general office equipment on a daily basis
• Daily work in an office environment and with frequent travel to client sites with exposure to weather conditions
• Available to work 7 hours per day and/or 35 hours per week or more as necessary to meet Association objectives.
• Ability to travel for meetings, agency trainings and other miscellaneous work assignments within or outside of Allegheny County.
