JOB TITLE: Group Supervisor


Reports to: Early Care and Education Director

Pay Scale: $12.00-$14.00/hr
Department: Children and Youth Development and Education Department

JOB SUMMARY:

A Group Supervisor works as part of a team made up of the Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director, Group Supervisors, Assistant Group Supervisors, Aides, Van Drivers, Cook and clerical staff. She/he ensures the coordination of quality program (in particular NAEYC and/or NAA requirements) for all age groups in the Children and Youth Development and Education Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field. OR
• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and one year of experience with children. OR
• An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and two years of experience with children. OR
• An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and three years of experience with children.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated knowledge of PA Early Learning Standards, PA Keystone STARS Program, and Environmental Rating Standards. Knowledge of NAEYC, DHS, and/or NAA standards and requirements are preferred.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists the department Director in completing requirements for accreditation including coordination of surveys.
• Ensures that all staff learn and follow standards and requirements.
• Assumes responsibility for the operation of the Center in the absence of the department Supervisor and Director.
• Keeps the department Director informed of decisions made.
• Maintains ratios and room capacities.
• Drives the van as deemed necessary.
• Communicates with parents.
• Always informs the department Director when a parent must be contacted regarding anything serious.
• Works with the department Director on goals area after the completion of the ERS evaluation of program.
• Implements the Creative Curriculum with demonstrated progress in producing and implementing the curriculum.
• Plans and executes appropriate activities for the children each day and assists teachers to complete weekly activity plans in safe, child-centered environments.
• Collects each room’s weekly lesson plans, including the Before School program, makes corrections as necessary and submits to the department Director.
• Ensures that each group is participating in developmentally appropriate activities.
• Observes and evaluates each child’s progress and provides written reports to the department Supervisor.
• The incumbent maintains compliance with standard DPW health and safety regulations.
• Must show progress towards learning and implementing DPW licensing guidelines.
• Supervises Assistant Group Supervisors, aides and volunteers in the assigned group area; works cooperatively with all other staff.
• Attends staff and parent meetings.
• Completes all required reports on a timely basis.
• Administers medications in accordance with DPW regulations and Association policy.
• Ensures children’s safety while observing and executing preventative measures.
• Maintains high levels of consumer satisfaction.
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee and contract information.
• Displays consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.
• Promotes and supports the mission, imperative, values and goals of the YWCA maintaining high performance standards.
• Participates in YWCA professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge and procedures.
• Performs other such duties assigned within the scope of the Children and Youth Development and Education Department.
