Action Conversations on Race
Every third Wednesday of the month 12-1pm EST, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh’s Center for Race and Gender Equity presents Action Conversations on Race, a panel discussion dedicated to racial justice. Featuring local experts and leaders in fields such as equity and diversity, policy change, and advocacy, these conversations are designed to build community and create change.
Participants can register for upcoming Action Conversations on Zoom or join us through Facebook Live. Scroll down to view our upcoming themes for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 season, as well as links to recordings and resources from previous conversations.
Our Action Conversations on Race take place the third Wednesday of every month at 12-1pm EST.
Materials to help spread the word!
Our discussion today observes YWCA Week Without Violence and focuses on how men and white people can contribute to the elimination of racial and gender-based violence. Read more about our panelists here!
In honor of Transgender Awareness Week, join us for a discussion of the Black Trans Lives Matter movement here in Pittsburgh and how to advocate for more inclusive anti-discrimination action.
Managing mental health is often challenging, and the winter months can be especially triggering, stressful, and depressing for many of us. Yet, women of color encounter significant barriers to accessing culturally responsive trauma-informed mental health services. Join us for a discussion of race, gender, and mental health with specific actions for self-care and community care. Read more about our panelists here!
Did you know that women hold approximately two-thirds of all student loan debt? Or that Black, Latinx, and Indigenous women graduate with the highest amounts of loan debt? Our panelists examine the student loan debt crisis and how our support of student loan forgiveness helps remedy gender, race, and economic inequities.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the complex ways in which race plays a significant role in health disparities. Learn more about supporting Pittsburgh’s various efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic, including vaccine hesitancy, from a racial and gender equity standpoint.
On this day last year in Atlanta, we faced a grim reminder that AAPI women are routinely targeted by violence. It is not enough that President Biden signed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law as a response to rising anti-Asian violence. Join us in conversation as our panelists discuss taking effective and comprehensive action against anti-Asian racism.
Low-income women in communities of color are disproportionately burdened by environmental problems, including the extreme weather caused by climate change. We must act together now to enact policies that address the climate crisis and its ongoing connection to settler colonialism, racism, and gender inequality.
This year the Supreme Court agreed to review the constitutionality of abortion laws. Their decision has a considerable impact on people with unwanted pregnancies, especially young women of color. Our panelists will describe how ongoing advocacy for reproductive justice must be anti-racist as well as gender inclusionary.
